"ACALISE Status Review"

The African Centre of Excellence in Agro – Ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE) has been applauded for its commitment to high quality performance that has produced outstanding results since the project began. The Executive Secretary for the Inter – University Council of East Africa (IUCEA), Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona made the compliment today, while meeting the ACALISE team to check on the progress of the ACE II Project at the Main Campus Nkozi.

Prof. Gaspard congratulated the PhD students for the opportunity given by the project and encouraged them to work hard and complete. He was optimistic that the Project will receive more funding.

Dr. Jude Ssebuwufu presented the overall progress of the Project with success stories and lessons learnt, challenges and road map for completing outstanding activities and the sustainability plan. The Principal Investigator of the ACALISE Project, Dr. Joseph Ssemakula cited the various partnerships and innovations that have helped change the livelihoods of the farmers and neighboring communities for the better. The visiting officials were led to a site visit to some of the Projects that have been undertaken by ACALISE like; the UMU Radio Studios; the Postgraduate Hostel; the Entomology Lab; Feed Mill and Farm equipment found at the Faculty of Agriculture where the Executive Secretary planted a tree.
