1st Eastern Agroecology Conference

Biovision Africa Trust and other partners under the African Union Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative organized the 1st Eastern Agroecology Conference: Transforming Food Systems for Responsible Production, Consumption and Social Wellbeing under the theme “Strengthening Resilience and Sustainability in Food Systems for Environmental and Socio-Economic Development in Eastern Africa” at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi – Kenya from 21st to 24th March, 2023.
The conference aimed at invoking consciousness and motivate national, regional and continental institutions to invest in interventions that will ameliorate the negative impacts of the current unsustainable food systems and take deliberate measures towards more environmentally friendly solutions with long term vision and planning.
The minister of State for Agriculture (Uganda), Hon. Fred Bwino Kyakulaga as Guest of Honour in his official opening remarks at the conference recognized the great work of ACALISE, at Uganda Martyrs University in producing a critical mass of Agroecologistsin the country and the region. He also noted that the Centre is among the Government of Uganda’s responseses to enhancing environmental integrity as was agreed in previous relevant UN conferences, particularly the one that was held in Egypt.
