Staff Exchange Fellow (Dr. Kumbukani Mzengereza)

ACALISE received a Staff Exchange Fellow from the African Centre of Excellence in Neglected and Underutilized Biodiversity (ACENUB) hosted at Mzuzu University, Malawi. The exchange was aimed at building capacity and share knowledge on aquatic animal nutrition and feed technology. Dr. Kumbukani Mzengereza facilitated a short course and delivered a Guest Lecture under the theme “Thoughts for the Future of Aquaculture Nutrition: Realigning Perspectives to Reflect Contemporary Issues Related to Judicious Use of Alternative Resources in Aquafeeds” to Staff and Student of Uganda Martyrs University.

BIO-DATA OF DR. KUMBUKANI MZENGEREZA
Dr. Kumbukani Mzengereza received a PhD degree in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from the United graduate school of Agricultural Sciences, Kagoshima University in Japan in 2022. He holds a Masters degree in Fisheries Science from Mzuzu University (Malawi) obtained in 2015 and Bachelor’s degree with credit in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science from University of Malawi in 2009. He is serving as a Lecturer and current Head of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic sciences, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Mzuzu University, Malawi. His research interests are in aquatic animal nutrition, feed technology and general aquaculture. His research focuses on feed additives and replacement of fish meals and fish oils in aquaculture feeds for the sustainable aquaculture industry. He has published papers in MDPI (animals) and Elsevier (Aquaculture reports) among others on : https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6129-. In 2022 he received a grant of 30,000£ from Global Council Research Fund (GCRF) -Innovate UK for research on use of Insect protein : Yellow meal worm (Tenebrio molitor) in Tilapia feeds in Malawi, in collaboration with Institute of Aquaculture , University of Stirling , Scotland.
